I first encountered Sassmouth at an afterhours party at DEMF this year at a crazy place called Bert’s On Broadway (at first I thought was called Burst On Broadway because some Deee-troit Basketball fans were yelling the name after the Oslo party got broken up because of a drive-by outside). It was probably like 8am and the party was definitely dieing down, until bam, Sassmouth & Punisher get on the decks and proceed to keep it going for like 2 more hours. While, Punisher beat it as usual, it was Sassmouth who really impressed with her banging, but simultaneously funky drum style of techno/house. The next day I ran into her at the festival and the rest is history. Now we’ve hit the jackpot and she’s blessed us with a spectacularly dope mix of all her favorite sounds of now (which btw are also some of my favs). As I write this she’s being a hippie and playing at Camp Bisco, but we’ll forgive her for that and because she’s coming to play at Midweek Techno soon, so watch out or you may get sassed.

Today we began something new! We’re calling it Soul Clap Snack Pack Jack Attack Radio and it’s our new weekly radio show, broadcast live from NOON-2pm on Boston’s freshest internet radio station Utopia Boston Radio, which is the brainchild of our city’s house music godfather, DJ Bruno and Seed Recordings front man, Bradford James. Rather than just do a straight up mix format like the Adventures Of Soul Clap Podcast, the concept for Snack Pack Jack Attack is to provide lunchtime listening leisure, in a more traditional lunch hour radio format. The show is broadcast live from our studio on the mothership each week so we’re going to be pulling tons of forgotten favs from our vinyl collection and also hosting the show and announcing what we’re playing. We’ll also be recording the show every week and posting it on the blog and eventually as it’s own podcast (the question is: should we add it to our current podcast feed or make a new one? Let us know what you think). Here’s our first episode, make sure to keep it locked!

This Wednesday, July 16th Midweektechno welcomes Detroit -> NYC transplant Eric Cloutier. Soulclap will be in full effect on warm up duties. Mr Cloutier has made his mark in the big apple as a DJ for the Brooklyns famous Bunker parties as well as Subtrak Records. We first met up with him at this year’s DEMF where he pushing the Accelerate Afterparty @ The Works with Daniel Bell, Sammy Dee and Zip on the line-up. Clearly Eric knows how to party! Here’s a little taste of things to come:
So, we try really hard not to pick favorites in Soulclap land. You know its a lot like middle school where the teachers tell you not bring candy because someone always gets left out or upset or hung up on the wedgie hook. Well, we’re making an exception with DJ and re-edit king Kon, so here it goes: DJ Kon is the best Disco/Funk/Soul/Boogie DJ in the world, yeah I said it. Yes of course, I know. You’re probably saying “but but but, what about DJ BLAH BLAH”! Well, Kon will not only mix circles around whoever you’re thinking about but then at then end of the night he’ll go home and sleep in Dorchester. Being from Boston is 10 extra points.
Saturday July 12th, DJ Kon will be performing from 8-10p at Dancing On The Charles. We are very lucky to have him and are extra excited to hear the man throw down. In case you’re not up to speed on the Kon & Amir compilations like The Kings of Diggin (released 2006 on Rapster Records, sub-label of Studio !K7) or the more recent Off-Track compilation series on BBE, you should get hip. To give you a taste we’ve got a perfect summertime mix to get you in the mood that Kon did a few years. Check for more goodies on his blog Playin4Keeps.

Wednesday July 9th, Midweektechno gets up close and personal with Boston flyboy Tanner Ross. His work with Claude Von Stroke’s Dirty Bird Recordsx and Mothership Music as well as the UK based Freerange Records have quickly catapulted him into the record bags of many DJ greats. Warming up is Boston favorite Matty Dimond, former T. Ross production partner and quality selector extrodinare.
See the boys get beautifully bald on the dance-floor and possibly end up looking like this or this.
Tonight is special, because UK Techno superstar Lee Burridge is performing at the Underbar alongside our buddies Sergio “Nylz” Santos and Eli Wilkie. Certainly newsworthy, for guest list email firstname.lastname@example.org. Or just tell people at the door that you’re “Joe Mama’s Uncle”.
Here are some Lee Burridge goodies in anticipation of his Boston arrival:
In case you haven’t heard, July is LADIES MONTH on the Adventures of Soulclap Podcast, so who better to set the bar high than Boston’s very own “Club Wheels Queen”, DJ D-Lux. With ONLY 2 YEARS DJing under her belt, she’s quickly on the up and up. D-Lux set the vibe right at this past June 28th Dancing On The Charles with choice deep cuts that had heads bouncing. Her self described “Summer Hotness” mix spotlights a variety of recent releases inspired by warm weather, vibey beats and (believe it or not) the music at the 1st D.O.T.C in May!

Portuguese chouriço is made with pork, fat, wine, paprika and salt. In and around Lisbon it is popular to eat partially sliced chouriço that has been flame cooked over alcohol at the table. Special glazed earthenware dishes with a lattice top are used for this purpose.
DJs Sergio Santos and Pat Fontes are Portuguese-Americans who are also made with pork, fat, wine, paprika and salt. In and around the Phoenix Landing, it is popular to listen to them trade off acting macho and playing some of the best damn dance music in town. Join two of our favorite specially blazed, i mean glazed earthenware DJs on Wednesdays night as Portugal takes over the wheels of steel.
