Some people call it Miami Music Week, but to us it will always be WMC. Our 16th year is next week and better believe its full of action…
This years week of events is gonna be a whirlwind! First up on Tuesday, DOORLY (https://www.miamimusicweek.com/event/doorly-and-friends) invited us to get down with him and friends for an afternoon pool party at One Hotel. Wednesday we join MARTIN BUTTRICH to celebrate his “Collaborator” (https://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?857244) album release party at Trade. Thursday it’s the 6th annual FUCKING CATALINA WINE MIXER (RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org) at the Soho Beach House and this year our big guest is none other than Josh Wink! Friday we got the night off (thank heavens). Saturday is a double header; we play early at GET LOST (https://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?937501) and then join NICK MONACO for a FREE pool party at the Freehand Hotel (http://freehandhotels.com/miami/facebook-events/nick-monaco-soul-clap/) until 7pm. Finally on Sunday, the HOUSE OF EFUNK (https://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?933151) returns to The Electric Pickle for a marathon of music, kicking off at 3pm with 20+ DJs headlined by Kenny Dope and DâM-FunK! Also, this year we’re proud to present our latest Soul Clap curated compilation “Three Oh Five Life” (https://soulclaprecords.lnk.to/ThreeOhFiveLife) featuring 9 original tracks, all made by Miami based talent out now on Soul Clap Records.
This year we’re donating a portion of the week’s proceeds to PARTIES FOR PEACE’s (http://www.parties4peace.com) educational programs for Venezuelan youth through the MUSIC & ART PEACE ACADEMY (https://www.facebook.com/musicandartpeaceacademy) which will help Venezuelan music students get on this year’s Peace Boat.

When we first made it to Made Event‘s now legendary WMC closing bash 4 years ago we we’re completely blown away. The party was still at the now defunct (and sorely missed) Pawn Shop parking lot and I’m pretty sure Sunday School was the only day of the year they opened up out there, so it was really special. It was basically way too packed with the hot ass sun cooking your ass while getting absolutely mental to the most upfront house/techno DJs in the world and boy did it leave a lasting impression. While, some people complained when the event moved to Ice Palace in ’09, I think the added grassyness and extra space outside made the new digs an even more fun place to party, plus having the inside area in a massive warehouse space is the perfect environment for slamming Adam Beyer style techno.
Needless to say, when we were asked to play Sunday School this year we were totally honored and blown away and when we found out we got the 9:30-11am outside set time we were even more excited. If you know us, you know this is pretty much our dream gig and time slot, so we immediately got to work preparing the perfect set to reach the more techno oriented crowd, but still showcase our unique sound. Saturday night we hit the sack super early, got up fresh at 6am, hit Latin Cafe 2000 for breakfast sandwiches and Cuban coffee and headed down to get in the morning time vibes. It was a bit cloudy all day but there were some amazing moments when the floaty jams brought out the sun, the crowd response was beyond anything we could have imagined and we even ended up with this here awesome recording to share with everyone! Most of all, thanks to the entire Made Event team for being super pro, all our friends for getting up early/staying up late and smiling and going crazy in front of the booth, Zoe for being Ms America, DJ T for dancing on stage the whole time and of course Betty Kang. We can’t do it without all yalls support 🙂

Hot damn, I can’t believe we haven’t done a mixTAPE Time since last year. But hey, we’re finally back and boy do we have a treat for you. If you ask anyone who was there they’ll tell you that the CheapSunglasses afterhours at PS-14 was the highlight of WMC ’08 (shout out to The BLK|Market Membership and Udder Madness). I mean how can you go wrong when you have two rooms of underground beats, well actually one room and one super chill sunlit back patio, in a super intimate venue with only real music-heads (not the Space/Nocturnal meat-heads) from 8am-10pm. Basically you can’t, and to top it all off Italoboyz absolutely killed it with a old-school New York influenced minimal/house/garage set in the sunshine, and now we have a recording of it for you!
Shout out to the homies Paulo & Henry from AirDrop for putting out the vinyl and being ultimate party monsters, Ferk & Andy from Istmo for linking the interview, Knight Rider for the photos and shouts, Sergio for flying down for only 24hours, the entire Boston posse holding it down hard the whole week and of course Juddy & Beba for the blog love.
