Episode 83: Craig Torrance In The Underworld

Lets just stop for a moment to marvel at the ginger-haired wonder that is Mr. Craig Torrance. A London based DJ and producer, not only is he just an all around sweet guy but he is one of our favorite Glaswegians. We’ve been meaning to podcast his mix for a while now, but it got lost in the shuffle (sorry Craig). So, as we venture into rarely charted dark/techy waters, we proudly present the latest episode of The Adventures of Soul Clap podcast: Craig Torrance In The Underworld

In his own words… “The story behind the mix is that a friend asked me to do a dark, moody, techy mix like one i did a few years back. It gave me a chance to put together some of my fave tracks of late with some of my fave of all time. And to also put on it some track thats i may not always get the chance to play when i DJ out in clubs (unless it’s a crazy afterparty). I ended up spending 3 months putting the tracklisting together and mixing it and am rather pleased with the results. I’d describe it as “Evil yet epic, sinister yet beautiful, harrowing yet hypnotic” if that makes any sense. Enjoy…”

Episode 65: Jonny White Toronto Madness

When it comes to the few North Americans seriously stacking their discographies in recent years, few can compete with Jonny White. Representing Toronto, Jonny has been just slaying the Techno/House genre with releases on his own No. 19 Music, Ripperton’s Perspectiv Records and a ton of remix work including a feature alongside Tiefschwarz for Crosstown Digital Rebels. Unfortunately we’ve still never met face to face, however we’re already quite familiar with his music after discovering his after hours treasure “Rainsong” (No. 19 Music) back in 2008 and what a tune!

We asked Jonny to do a podcast a while back and this one came together live at his pad in Toronto New Years Day after a night of madness! The mix is loaded with original content and we’re thrilled that he gets things rolling with our new Clapz II Dogz project made with Voitek from Catz n Dogz. Lastly, you can catch Jonny White and us (Da Clap) on the same bill for the first time in Miami this year at Crosstown Rebels’s Get Lost WMC party. Enjoy Jonny White!

Episode 63: Till Von Swizzle

Till Von Sein is the master of arrogance. He’s gotta be our favorite German dude mostly because he rocks crispy white tee’s with catchy slogans on them for like maybe two or three uses tops and then throws them away. Plus whenever he’s buying sneakers, homeboy always cops two pair. I mean, if that ain’t keeping it REALLY real in Berlin, than we don’t even know.

In the studio, TVS (as the kids call him) was a force in 2009 putting out soulful and pop infused Berlin sounding tech house with colabs alongside fresh dudes like Catz ‘n Dogz, Tigerskin and Chopstick. So, what will 2010 hold for Tilly Jam? We’ve heard a taste of some new joints allegedly headed to Supplement Facts that are off the hook and if he get’s that track with the “Shanice” sample out of Reason he’d have another bomb! Soul Clap seal of approval, two thumbs up!

All around, Till is just one helluva guy and we’re proud to have him for our first podcast of the 10’s!!! Das da sheeet!

Speaking In Code To Premiere In Somerville?!?!

So former Boston resident Amy Grill and longtime Boston dance music supporter and current Weekly Dig arts editor, David Day have been working on this techno documentary for probably like 5 years now and it turned into a personal saga. This Thursday Amy and David are finally hosting the official Speaking In Code world premiere and it’s happening right here in Boston (well Somerville to be exact). We are super lucky to have this screening in our city so get your tickets here if you like dance music and you live in Boston!

Episode 48: Wolf + Lamb, Brooklynn Therapists

So, yes as you can tell, there has been a lot of Wolf + Lamb in our lives lately.  From their unstoppable afterhours parties at the famed Marcy Hotel, to their recent leap from digital-only to a vinyl imprint, to the success of their all-star roster (Lee Curtiss, Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Nicholas Jaar, Le Loup, etc) it is safe to say that Wolf + Lamb are headed in the right direction.

For those that don’t know, Wolf + Lamb (aka Wuss + Lame) is the Brooklyn based tag team of Zev Eisenberg and Gadi Mizrahi.  These guys are more than just DJs/Producers.  Together their combined vision has brought to life an entire lifestyle brand which promotes underground culture, music, events, design, clothing, Frisbees, chocolates, a fake boutique hotel/afterhours paradise, burning man installations, Talmudic studies and so much more.

We’ve been after these guys for a podcast for a while now, so here we present a 60 min mix of almost all forthcoming releases on the Wolf + Lamb label.  Check out the track list and maybe you’ll recognize a track or two.  Rumor has it that they will be releasing bootlegs soon as well, BWAHAHHAHAHA 🙂

Look out for Wolf + Lamb’s upcoming release the “Brooklynn EP” (WLM003) due out on vinyl March 9th.    The EP is super-sick start to finish with vocalist Smirk (the dude that did Lee Curtiss remixed “Start A Fire” on Sexy Dancer EP) on another catchy number called “Therapist” and an instant top choice re-edit by Shaun Reeves with an R&B/80’s feel called “If You Had”.  Lastly, in case you’re wondering these are the songs that fuel Seth Troxlers Ibiza-Voice podcast from late January 2009, so eat it up.

Tracklist:
Wolf + Lamb – Therapist (WLM03)
No Regular Play – Smiling Faces (WLM Unreleased)
Miss Fitz – Don’t Know Why (Unreleased)
Soul Clap – Conscious (W+L Black Unreleased)
Wolf + Lamb – Must Be Brooklyn (WLM03)
Foolish & Sly – Come A Little Closer (Cynic)
No Regular Play – Derecha (WLM Unreleased)
Loco Dice – How Do I Know (Cassy Remix)(Desolat)
Robert Dietz – Actrice (Be Chosen)

Episode 47: Le Loup’s Full Moon Mix

This week on the Adventurers of Soul Clap Podcast, we are proud to present a sophisticated, forward thinking and seriously deep mix from Get The Curse contributor and forthcoming Wolf + Lamb artist; the Parisian young blood, Le Loup.

Le Loup’s production sound very similar to his his DJ mix, reaching into a melting pot of Jazz classics, house and an all around heavy Detroit/NYC vibe.  This set fits perfectly both daytime or afterhours and is a tried and tested compliment to any smokey scenario ;).

His upcoming W+L release (WL054 Digital) will feature another re-rub of the popular Nina Simone standard “See Lime Woman”, a remix of Nicholas Jaar’s “The Student” (formly remixed by Seth Troxler) and our favorite, the deep deep mood setter titled “Give Me Some”.
