It’s been way to long since we’ve posted, but that’s because we’ve been busy getting ready for the WMC. What with The Giraffe vinyls arriving, new tunes to finish and a mix of all original material to throw together we haven’t really had much time for posting. We do however, have some articles, interviews and mixes that we’ve been spreading around the planetary interweb the last couple weeks and provide links to below for your enjoyment while we’re busy soaking up some rays, babes, house and techno in the M.I.A.
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing legendary Detroit musician Amp Fiddler before his performance at the Middle East in Cambridge. The interview was published last week in the Weekly Dig and you can read it online here.
We’ve also been getting a ton of great guests through to the Phoenix Landing on Wednesdays, which is great for all electronic music fans in Boston, but also great for everyone anywhere because we often get the chance to interview our guests for the midweektechno blog before they touchdown and then record and post their sets on the midweektechno podcast afterwards. Recent interviews include: Quarion (who’s playing this week), Chris Fortier & Adultnapper and goto the podcast page to hear live mixes from Derek Plaslaiko, Craig Mitchell, Adultnapper and the all the residents, including us 😉
While the year’s not quite over and you can expect a couple more posts and podcasts before all is said and done, right now seems as good a time as any to look back on the year that was 2007.It was a big year for us and we hope you were there to share some of the memories, but in case you missed out or forgot, here’s how it went in the first (almost) year of the Soul Clap blog:
With the summer in full swing, August was a slow month on the blog, but we still held it down with 2 great podcasts from Paulo and Sergio and 2 DaftPunk related ROOTS&FUTUREs, oh yeah and don’t forget D.O.T.C.3.
Snoop does house on his new single: Sexual Eruption
Hope you enjoyed the fresh dose of 90’s house/technoness last week. Things are crazy busy on the mothership these days, so posts and podcasts have been tough to come by, but don’t worry we’ll keep the goodies (and there are alot of ’em in the works) coming just as fast as we can. For now here’s a quick update on what’s going on in our galaxy.
But before we get to the official transmission let’s start with that Snoop Dogg video up there. If you had asked me my thoughts about Snoop a couple months back I already would have told you that the Doggfather is probably the most underrated musician of the 00’s. It seems that just because he is such a pop icon people totally underestimate his music, but check 04’s R&G or 06’s Blue Carpet Treatment and you’ll find a unique sound that bridges the gap between 80’s funk and r&b and future hip-hop, soul and electronic and sets Snoop apart from any other artists of today. Like those albums weren’t enough, his new single explores unexplored territories for Snoop with it’s balearic house strings while taking the funk/r&b throwback to the next level (especially in the video) and the result is an absolute masterpiece. Now back to our regularly scheduled program:
Finally on a more serious note, one of the most important men in disco and garage, Mel Cherin passed away this weekend and TJ Gorton over at American Athlete had 2 exceptional tribute posts that help keep his memory alive. Make sure to learn your history here and here.
