Here on the Adventures we always love to shine the light on young DJs with good taste, so when Colby (1/2 of The Interns) opened up our House of EFUNK party on Holy Ship with a gorgeous set of house, new disco and funk, we offered him a slot on right away.
“With Summer around the corner, the LA based DJ duo, The Interns, are looking forward to a slower pace and brighter days. After making the rounds at several West Coast festivals, including a two night stint at Coachella’s Silent Disco, The Interns are ready to kick back, relax, and enjoy the Southern California vibes they’ve come to know and love. To celebrate the impending solstice, they’ve compiled an all star roster of downtempo jams. You’ll find a well curated mix of house, disco, funk, and soul to help you drift away to a place where the breeze is always cool and the water is just a short walk away.”

This podcast sure has been a long time coming. Chances are if you’ve read our interviews you’ve seen us mention one of our greatest Boston mentors, DJ Kon. This is the guy who discovered us during our Next Generation Productions years when we, along with our old business partner Sammy Sokol used promote hip-hop and pop club nights in the Bean. Back then we had a Saturday night residency at a club called Aria along with Kon and it was there we became friends. He could tell we were serious about DJing but still had a lot to learn and we were very fortunate to become his students!
Kon, born Christian Taylor, is a living, breathing encyclopedia of all things disco. His gargantuan vinyl collection has earned him the title “King Of Digging” by BBE Records who put out a compilation under the same name along with fellow record collector Amir (BBE also signed a 5-album compilation series deal called On-Track). He also has managed to position himself in the middle of a group of anonymous mutli-track collectors known only as the “Super Friends” who posses digital versions of the original recording sessions of some of pop musics greatest artists such as Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Michael Jackson and on and on and on! This resource along with Kon’s endless knowledge of music has resulted him creating some of the most dance-floor friendly Re-Edits we’ve EVER heard. Now, most of the best ones are unreleased, but you can check out Kon’s Off-Track vinyl series and pickup some of these gems.
We’re really excited to finally have a mix from our Boston homie. He seriously has to be one of the most skilled technical DJ’s to ever walk this earth and you can hear it in his programming and mixing. Always keeping the flow of mood and even mixing songs in key! We want to thank Kon for all he’s done for us and hope you enjoy. Oh lastly, he’s currently looking for a new agent to handle his European/World bookings. If any agencies are interested, please send us an email to email@example.com.
Here’s some words from the man himself:
“This mix was recorded live at Cult club in Moscow for their 10 yr anniversary party. This was my 2nd time rocking this venue and knew from the last time that it would be live. Its the only club in Moscow that has built its rep for DJs playing truly eclectic, free sets… not just house music all night long, but really everything and anything honest. From disco to boogie to jazz funk and latin… and the dancers go off ! I purposely didnt include any of my own edit/remixes. With that being said, I knew it would be summer time, my favorite time & warm sounds resonate with me most, but I also wanted to include a moody vibe as well and drop some house… a side of me that many seem not to know im into, so I close out the mix with a favorite tune of mine by my homie Eli Escobar …”Anniversary” (which is rumored to drop at the end of the summer) as well as a remix by Julio Bashmore ( a new fav producer of mine) and a few other house jams. Im loving the return to the 88-90 sound of house.. that Detroit touch, simple.. banging, party time…lets go.. dance floor shit. ”

We first met William Rauscher of Night Plane at the Marcy Hotel outside in the yard. It had been a long night and it was a beautiful Brooklyn morning and when we were introduced, his name immediately rang a bell. Wasn’t he the Resident Advisor writer who did the label of the month feature on Wolf + Lamb? He was! And wasn’t he the guy who reviewed the Love Light Edits EP on Wolf + Lamb Black? YES! Oh and didn’t he give us only 3 1/2 stars??? Well turns out William is a tough critic and this we can appreciate, but we told him “it was nice to meet you, but we only give this experience 3 1/2 stars”.
All ball busting aside, William is more than just a writer/blogger, he is also a very talented producer. His project Night Plane sounds like a stunning combination of new disco, house, jazz, rock and psychedelia that couldn’t be more timely as the lines of dance music continue to blur. Samples, synths and tons of reverb, William’s music is really impressive and when we received his mix of ALL ORIGINAL material, we knew we had podcast gold.
For more info on Night Plane check out the Myspace or the blog, but we think really the music speaks for itself. So without further ado, tracks by William, mixed by harry, here is Night Plane:
Blue I Feel (When I’m Feeling Down)
The American Friend
Str8 2 Ur Heart

Song from a CD the organizers gave us?
It’s surprising how much my music tastes change with the seasons. Winter is techno time, I want my beats dark and moody when it’s snowing and cold outside. Then summer hits and it’s all about headie funk and house (for more on the coming of summer and it’s influence on dance music sounds check undomundo’s Summer Styles post). So you guessed it, summer in Boston is here and it’s time for sunny music. Except who would expect it to come from Norway, I mean, they’re way up north? I’m not sure why, but Norwegians have been spearheading the whole space disco thing for a minute now with dudes like Prins Thomas and Lindstrm at the forefront. So it’s no suprise that Oslo native Todd Terje aka Tangoterje is making killer new disco jams, but while Thomas and Lindstrm specialize in dubbed out funk rockers, Mr. Terje goes right for the beach and hits with serious summer soundtracks. I think I’m kind of behind on this guy because he’s been doing his thing since 2004 (with edits on G.A.M.M., Supreme and Ballroom all establishing him as a master of his trade and original tracks on Bear Funk and Full Pupp solidifying his rep), but the sound of Terje is the sound of now, especially with summer here. Hear for yourself…
Studio – Life’s A Beach! (Todd Terje Beach House Remix) DOWNLOAD
This is Terje’s latest work and it’s my official anthem for summer ’07 for reals. Studio are Swedish and that’s about all I know about that. You can buy their releases here.
Michael Jackson – I Can’t Help It (Tangoterje Edit) DOWNLOAD
Masterful edit of an overlooked MJ jam that was released on the Tangterje EP on G.A.M.M. in 2005. Check the drums on the extendo breakdown. G.A.M.M. is the bootleg/edit off-shoot of Raw Fusion Recordings and you can’t buy ’em digital so get the vinyl here.
Double – Woman of the World (Tangoterje Edit) DOWNLOAD
Another stellar edit, this time of a Double track from 1984, which was released on Supreme in ’04. In 2006 he released his amazing Diamonds Dub on Supreme, so buy that one (and alot of other Terje tracks) here.
