I don’t know why this dude has not blown up yet. He’s from Austria and makes beats that are part Solid Groove part Henrik Schwartz part RZA. Really original shit that covers all styles from techno to dancehall to hip-hop to broken beat to baile funk. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t dropped enough material yet? Because quality is not the issue here and each release is on a heavyweight lablel (G-Stone, K7, Man Recs). Hopefully his new album “Keepin’ Me” (which you can buy on CD here and digital here) will help push dude’s name to the forefront where his sounds already live. Wake up people.
The tracks below are house, techno, broken-beat and baile funk. For Stereotyp’s dancehall and hip-hop sounds check his myspace and listen to the mix at the bottom.

For the second edition of the ROOTS&FUTURE series I’d like to introduce Shahrokh SoundOfK, a production team out of Germany (of course) with a sound very much along the similar vibe lines of Ame. This is probably due to the fact that EVERY TUNE was mixed/engineered by Andreas Schrpp who is the man behind the man for Ame and responsibile for mixing/engineering every tune Ame released since the Safari / Hydrolic Dog 12″ in 2003, which appears to be pretty much EVERYTHING (please someone correct me if I’m wrong).
The music is funk, tech, deepness, dripping with reverb and that signature Sonar Kollektiv style kick that seems to stick to the floor with every hit. These tunes are so right, I can’t even explain how good it feels to discover this music.
The main producers are Andreas Khler (aka Andy Fabulous, aka Sound Of K) and DJ Shahrokh (aka Shahrokh Dini) who have just dropped their second release on Compost Records, working together as Shahrokh SoundOfK titled “Compost Black Label #18: Chicago EP”. Check out these tunes, I guarantee you’ll be rinsing them from now on.

Nerds are killing it right now. This dude The Amazing Rolo has created a loop machine that controls loops in Garage Band using a Nintendo Wii remote. Check the video and if you think you have the skills you can actually download the software here. Unfortunately for me (or do I mean fortunately?) I don’t have a Wii and I haven’t even played regular games on one, but if this software is any indication, Nintendo has done a lot more than just revolutionize the gaming industry.
I went to Siggraph when it was in Boston last year and saw some amazing art/music/technology pieces, but non impressed me more than reactable, “a multi-user electro-acoustic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface” developed by a group of Spaniards. When Cnyce found this demo, this demo and this improvisation on YouTube I had to post them. Probably the coolest thing about this instrument is the ability to collaborate/perform simultaneously at multiple locations, which basically leads to endless possibilities.
But, enough nerding around. If you want to party tonight we are playing and GoodLife as a trial run for our upcoming Future Sound Of Boston weekly. The idea here is to combine past influences with future sounds and we’re going to have a ridic lineup of local talent plus monthly out-of-town guests. More info on that soon…
