Trust us, Trus’me Is Trustworthy (R&F-017)

If you’re still sleeping on Trus’me, its time to wake up! The man has been called “The most interesting and promising producer in the [UK] right now” by BBC radio’s Giles Peterson and with a mind-blowing catalogue of music released on labels like Prime Numbers (his own), Stilove4music, Fat City and shortly on dance music major Defected, its no surprise why. Trus’me is an amalgam of disco, funk and deep house and in a time when electronic and techy sounds seem to set the trend, Trus’me’s music fills in a much needed soulful void. How soulful is Trus’me? How about an almost entirely analog production studio… Check It! Or how about rumored collaboration projects with Amp Fiddler, Kissy Asplund and Boston’s own King Of Digging, DJ Kon! Now thats SOUL!

Ok, enough of us blabbing… here is a LIVE DJ SET recorded by Redbull Music Academy of Trus’me at home in Manchester, UK as well as an awesome video interview courtesy of On-Point TV.

If you like what you hear (of course you do) Trus’me will be performing for us this Saturday, June 14th from 12-2a @ Redline, 59 JFK St Cambridge, MA. This will be his debut Boston performance. Cover is $5 all night, doors @ 9p, 21+

Kicking Off The Summer Right!

It’s not official yet, but summertime has most definitely arrived in the city that Soulclap calls home. Windows are open, patios and porches are in business, and shorts and sundress have replaced jeans on the streets and at the parties. These are all reasons we love summer in Boston, but none of them spell “summer is here” like the letters D O T C. Yep, you guessed it I’m talking about Dancing On The Charles, which finally kicked off over the weekend with a loud bang. Not even thunderstorms could keep people away as a capacity crowd enjoyed the first installment of the party that is putting Boston on the worldwide house and techno terrace map (sure it’s not afterhours, but give us a little break). Big shout out to Iris Burke for taking some amazing flics that you can check here. There are also more pics in our photo section plus more videos here. Finally and most important, a huge THANK YOU goes out to our Boston/Cambridge people for helping us kick off the summer right and we hope you’re as excited as we are for part 2, my birthday bbq edition with special guest Trus’me from Prime Numbers and Defected Records in Manchester, UK making a stop on his US debut tour (more on him soon)! P.S. we promise more port-a-potties next time 🙂

6/14/08: DOTC w/ Trus’me (Defected – UK) ***HAS BEEN MOVED***

***Due to circumstances beyond our control, THE JUNE 14TH EDITION OF DANCING ON THE CHARLES HAS BEEN MOVED. However, thanks to the support of the City of Cambridge the DOTC summer event series WILL RESUME AT THE MARSH POST ON JUNE 28th as a benefit for the American Legion and the Charles River Watershed Association w/ SPECIAL GUEST VINCENZO from BERLIN.

This Saturday, the party is STILL ON! So come see TRUS’ME (Defected, UK) and the DOTC crew @ Redline (59 JFK Street, Cambridge). Doors at 9pm – great food & only $5 cover all night long – 21+***

The second installation of Dancing On The Charles summer event series proudly presents a US debut performance of Trus’me (Defected Records, Prime Numbers, UK). BBC radio’s Giles Peterson is calling him “The most interesting and promising young producer in the country [UK] right now” . Trus’me is a disco edit and deep house king and we’re very excited to hear him turn the party out.

It’s also by birthday BBQ so prepare for shenanigans!

Adultnapper + DOTC 08

If you haven’t figured it out yet, we love techno, and lately techno has been loving us right back at our weekly residency at Phoenix Wednesdays. Cnyce’s live mix from the night on podcast Episode 25 should give you an idea of the new territories we’ve been charting over there. This week at Phx Wdnsds is extra special though, because we have a major guest DJ in celebration of the birthday of the night’s top techno dogfather, Senhor Pat Fontes. I’m talking about Adultnapper and if you don’t know about this NYC based, but internationally influential techno producer you can read our interview over at the Midweek Techno Blog, check the live mix below and come witness the insanity on Wednesday.

In other very important warm you up in the wintertime news, we are excited to announce SEVEN (that’s right, count ’em 7) Saturday dates for Dancing On The Charles’ Summer 2008 Lineup. If you’ve never heard about DOTC or somehow don’t remember what happened last summer you can get all the ’08 info here and relive ’07 here. See you on the river/dancefloor.

And A Happy New Year

While the year’s not quite over and you can expect a couple more posts and podcasts before all is said and done, right now seems as good a time as any to look back on the year that was 2007. It was a big year for us and we hope you were there to share some of the memories, but in case you missed out or forgot, here’s how it went in the first (almost) year of the Soul Clap blog:

We’ll be back so soon with our top tunes of ’07 chart and podcast plus a look ahead to 2008.

Unofficial Boston House/Techno Week Part 2

Dancing on the charles

I take it all back. For all that whining in my first report, I’m sorry. Sorry for the rant, sorry for the negativity. Because, Boston, for the second half of U.B.H/T.W. you fucking represented. Beginning with the throwback packed crowd at the Phoenix for Pig&Dan, into the drunken butt shaking for Jeff Samuel at Middlesex, continuing with the amazing dancefloor at Tiefschwarz and all the way through the uncontrollable energy and 6 turntable madness at DOTC4 and the sweaty basement after, YOU WERE THERE AND WE LOVE YOU FOR IT!

So to wrap it all up…

  • DOTC4 pics are here
  • Pig&Dan/Cnyce bday pics are here
  • We were on in the middle of it all (no we weren’t playing at B.O.A. Pavillion just going there for Underworld. DUH!)
  • Iris Burke‘s superb DOTC3 pics that we never linked before are here

…and finally…

Green Velvet – Flash (DJ Sneak Mix) DOWNLOAD
Here’s a little treat for all you crazy ravers that made it to DOTC4. This is the tune that really took the energy over the top. When I dropped this and everyone went nuts I really felt like I was at a rave in 1996 again. Oh yeah it’s ripped from Relief Records #50 “The Flash Remixes” double pack that came out in 1995 on green vinyl!

Raving On The Charles (We Wish)!

So heres a little inspiration from a 1991 UK rave called Pandemonium. We hope you have almost this much fun at the final Dancing on the Charles of 2007. And while we cant party all night like these nuttahs, if you keep your ears open you may just find something fun to do afterwards…

Oh yeah, dont forget to check us out on

We Love September Because…

September Woodcut

…it’s not back to school for us! Here are some random, but important notes for this super busy month:

  • This Friday we have our first official gig at Cambridge/Boston favorite Enormous Room! It’s also the first time in almost a month we’ve had a proper Soul Clap tagteam set, so expect Cnyce to put a chair on his head. I just got a grip of classic and future jams in Chicago so get your behind ready to work.
  • Those of you that are old school know E-Heavy and now your favorite Bamboozla is coming back atcha with a new and improved blog that features downloads of classic UK Garage vinyl and some history lessons fo dat azz.
  • September 15th-22nd is the unofficial Boston House Music Week. It begins Sat 9/15 with Underworld @ Bank Of America Pavilion, Sun 9/16 is Italoboyz @ Bump, Weds 9/19 is Cnyce’s Bday Bash with PIG&DAN @ The Phoneix, Thurs 9/20 is Jeff Samuel @ Make It New and last but definately not least the final installment of DOTC is Sat 9/22. EEEYO! For all of you who made it out to Dancing On The Charles part 3 THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! We had a new record attendance of over 350 dumb fresh, stupidly dope, terribly outstanding party monsters who made this last Saturday one of the best parties I’ve EVER DJed in Boston. If you didnt make it out this weekend, SHAME ON YOU!!! Bad party monster, BAD! You missed so much, from the perfect weather to the perfect BBQ to the perfect DJ sets from KC Hallet, Matty Diamond, Cnyce aka Cnizzle aka “A Better Jew Than You” aka “Where’s Eli?”, Sergio Santos, Tanner Ross and our secret DJ…. drum roll… Dirtybird Records own JUSTIN MUTHAFUNKIN MARTIN!

Ok, so sit down for this one, we messed up again and lost the recording, AGAIN! I know, someone was having too much fun and decided to unplug the power a couple times… I know, it must have been a fun thing to do, especially with everyone so into the music and everything… So, we’ll try again NEXT TIME, on SEPTEMBER 22nd, when we host the LAST DANCING ON THE CHARLES party of summer 2007, we’ll have to find another spot for the winter, any ideas?

Right, so if you have any pics from the party (or the after party!) please send ’em so we can post online! Sorry we cant have Yubi-quality this time… Oh and yes, if you’re wondering, this dude DID jump in the Charles River… He wins the award for most hardcore, maximum respect to that guy! Check the rest of the pictures here.
