Volvo Ocean Race
The Volvo Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three years. A route of almost 39,000 nautical miles takes participants through 9 or 10 legs and when a stop is needed to refuel its party time! For three consecutive Mondays, Soul Clap was called to perform at the Volvo Ocean Race Village, a temporary base-camp set up at Boston's unfinished Fan Pier. Grey Goose had set up a large tented area there, complete with sound system, lighting, white furniture and of course open bar. VIP status was needed to attend and we recorded a few hours of the blow-out final event. Boldfacers / Neiman Marcus Fashion Show
In March '09 Boldfacers.com teamed up with Neiman Marcus at the high-profile Natick Collection for a "Spring Stylemakers" fashion show. 12 featured Boldfacers (including salon mogul Elan Sassoon, Boston Ballet principal dancer Melissa Hough, and yours truly :) styled 3 models each. Soul Clap was called upon to create a soundtrack that captured each Boldfacer's unique style that we mixed live while the models walked the runway. We've been doing live (and pre-recorded) fashion show mixes for awhile now, but this one was especially fun because the show included our looks. Keep Your Resolutions '09
To celebrate New Year's Eve 2009, Boston's annual First Night festival asked us, along with DJs Die Young & Morgan Louis and VJs Robotkid & M@tt Boch to rock an outdoor dance party from the steps of the Boston Public Library in historic Copley Square. After a morning blizzard and with wind chill temperatures well bellow 0º Fahrenheit we didn't expect anyone to show up, but by 11pm the square filled up with mostly younger party animals that braved the cold and kept the energy pumping til the city cut us off after the ball drop. Check out Robotkid's video on the left and here's to more conga lines in '09! Hospitality RumBa Saturdays @ Boston's InterContinental Hotel
RumBa Saturdays @ Boston's InterContinental Hotel
From fall 2007 through summer 2008, Soul Clap held a weekly Saturday night residency in the lobby/lounge of RumBa, inside the InterContinental Hotel on Boston's Waterfront. Most nights consisted of carefully picked blend of music to compliment the space. However, It was the monthly champagne parties supported by brands like Dom Perigon, Perrier Jouet, Moet & Chandon, and Bollinger that really caught the public's attention. Champagne branded ice bars, L.E.D. lighting, VJ's and trees bearing chocolate strawberries and truffles all added to the extravagance and by the third month, crowds of 500+ transformed this average hotel bar into one of Boston's most unexpected hot spots. The Moxie Agency - Private Penthouse Launch Party
Hats off to the ladies of The Moxie Agency for knowing how to throw a launch party impossible to forget. The new hot PR team in town, whose clients include The Liberty Hotel, The Otto Group, Louis Vuitton and more decided, why use a stale venue, when you can use a newly finished penthouse worth $2.5 Million in Boston's quickly developing Waterfront! Of course Soulclap was there to set the night to music. The key here was the perfect balance of mixing and mingle. We started off slow, filling the space with an inviting environment as guests, clients and VIP's arrived. Then as the sun set, we took things up a notch picking up the energy with a classy pop, funk, disco and dance feel. Before long the dance floor was moving led by non other than the Moxie girls themselves. ![]() Custom Mixes, Fashion Banana Moon Poolside Fashion Shows
Banana Moon Poolside Fashion Shows
For two years in a row, Soul Clap has provided Europe's hottest swimwear brand with cutting edge music for their annual poolside fashion show in Monte Carlo. In 2007 we DJed live at the event to provide a sexy mix of new and classic disco and funk with a French twist. For 2008 we selected and produced the mix in our studio while still capturing the upscale, outdoor, French feelings of playing poolside. 2008 SeasonSoul Clap Studio Mix for Banana Moon '08 2007 SeasonSoul Clap Live Poolside for Banana Moon '07 Hospitality Poolside at Marquis Los Cabos
Poolside at Marquis Los Cabos
In April 2008 we were hired to DJ two events for a major corporation's top sales people on a retreat in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The first event was a VIP welcome dinner, which took place poolside at the picturesque Marquis Los Cabos Resort. For this event the mission was to create a classy lounge soundtrack that also had energy and appeal for a more conservative crowd. Here's what we turned out. Yelp's Modulations @ The MIT Museum
For their Modulations bash in January 2008, Yelp.com, the home of "Real People, Real Reviews" took over the MIT Museum in Cambridge, MA and invited us to perform our first ever entirely live experimental electronic music set for their 600+ person crowd of tech trendsetters. After weeks of preparation we appeared in animal masks and performed on 2 mixers, 1 laptop, 1 turntable, 1 tape deck, 1 Korg MS2000 synth and 1 Kozoh Vespa delay box. The set included about 50% original material and the other 50% totally mixed and edited wierdness. The whole event was filmed and recorded and here you can see the video and listen to our performance. Le Grand Dame Bar @ Liberty Hotel
In January 2008, Boston's newest upscale hotspot, the Liberty Hotel unveiled its exclusive Vueve Clicqout champagne bar. To celebrate, an affair of large proportions was in order and Soul Clap was called in to provide our DJ services. The La Grande Dame bar, nicknamed after the famous orange-labeled Champagne produced in Reims, was located center court on the second floor of the hotel, however the real action took place on the two VIP levels above where our DJ booth was located. Over 40 cases of champaign met their match that night and as a lucky few drank and ate from the exquisite raw bar, a tuxedoed Soul Clap delivered a deep, disco drenched musical environment even the widow François Clicquot would get loose to. With three days of celebrity appearances on the line, including "Angel" Selita Ebanks as well as Victoria's secret stylists Linda Hay and Italo Gregorio, the atmosphere in the store had to be perfect. Soul Clap along side our go-to-gal, DJ D-Lux, did it the right way with a combination of musical programming, tasteful mic presence and a cool and classy look to make this event series a total success. The Time Is Now Spotlight Fashion Event
For the 2007 holiday season The Mall at Chestnut Hill held an upscale fashion and shopping extravaganza to stimulate sales by showcasing styles from mall retailers such as Bloomingdales, Barneys New York, BCBGMAXAZRA, Stil, Jasmine Sola, & Kenneth Cole. Soul Clap was hired to create appropriate musical pairings for each retailer, then program the show and DJ live as well as create musical environments before and after. Leading up to the event we did in depth research on each retailer via interviews, site visits and websites. We then dove into our library and selected a specific musical equivalent for each brand. The fashion show was held at center court of the mall with professional models frozen in time as living sculptures. As the models changed clothes, we changed the musical feeling. The show was featured in Boston Magazine and you can view images here. ![]() Fashion Rhythm & Retail: In-store DJ Entertainment

Boston Ballet's DeTour Fashion Show 2006
In early 2006, Melissa Hough, a fantastic young dancer climbing the ranks of the Boston Ballet, called on Soul Clap to program the music for her new concept fashion event. DeTour is part fashion show (with Boston Ballet members as models) and part nightclub all put together in the name of raising money for the Boston Ballet. She told us her vision was to make the models "WORK", so we hit our record shelfs and pulled as many classic house joints that fit the theme to create a custom catwalk composition. The show went off with a bang as Boston's Mantra Restaurant/Lounge was packed with donors, dancers and party people alike. Plus, it all turned into a crazy dance-off once we started DJing the afterparty. MNSKI, Stel's, iBoutique, Stil, Matsu and Betsy Johnson were the featured designers. |
