2015 had more highlights than we could possibly name but some moments were too good to go without mention. For starters 2015 marked the completion of our long running project with Dr Funkenstein himself George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. The “In Da Kar EFUNK Remix EP” came out on Soul Clap Records and thanks to all of you we had a successful Kickstarter campaign that funded a music video for the history books (Thank you GABE and team!). Things were in motion… Louie Vega reached out, inviting us and Nick Monaco to collaborate. Which produced an original song called “See Some Light” for Louie’s new solo album. Then that lead to a few shows together including an epic night in NYC where we shared the bill with Masters At Work (MAW’s first EVER Brooklyn performance). On the remix tip we had the honor of reworking two classics, Marques Wyatt’s “For Those Who Like To Get Down” on Om Records and Eddie Amador’s “Rise” for Yoshitoshi. Oh, and the compilations were in full effect this year too! We teamed up with Bastard Jazz label to curate the latest Tempo Dreams, highlighting some incredible pieces of modern funk music. Then we dug deep into our house crates to piece together a VINYL ONLY live recording for the Watergate Mix CD series.
Out on the road we certainly had our magic moments. Shout outs to the Distortion Festival in Copenhaagen, Gottwood Festival in Wales, Georgies Wundergaarten outside of Amsterdam, Melt Festival near Berlin, Return To Rio and the mind-blowing Strawberry Fields bush doof in Austrlia, Magnetic Fields in Rajasthan India and of course a triumphant return to Movement Festival (our favorite in the world!) in DEEEETROIT! In the club world we finally made it Beirut to play The Grand Factory, took Fabric Room 1 by storm in London (love you JUDY!), tore the roof off at Watergate in Berlin and built a new home all together where Eli and Gadi teamed up with some local restauranteurs to open The Black Flamingo Bar/Lounge/Club in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
One thing’s for sure, NONE of these feats could have been possible if it wasn’t for a strong team effort from our manager Jonathan Mcdonald and the Crew Love office and of course or incredible agents. Looking forward to 2016 we’re launching the official Crew Love label with a collaborative album called BASED ON A TRUE STORY, which we’re also taking on a world tour all through the summer. Then we’re following that up with new albums from Nick Monaco and No Regular Play and as if that wasn’t enough we’re dropping a NEW SOUL CLAP ALBUM later in the year. Cant’ wait to share all the music and dancefloors with all of you in 2016!!
