Episode 72: Riding With The Moustache Mamas

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

If you’re wondering, “What the F is a Moustache Mamas???” Well check yo’ self foo! Close your eyes and imagine what happens when one Northerner & a North American meet up in a dirty East London basement. Space and time stand still…gravity shifts, a unicorn gets its wings… Representing both London and Berlin, Helen Burnip & Tamara Deike are the Moustache Mamas. A freakish duo of latex, jumpsuits, and spike heels – gently laced with the masculinity of a fine-tailored moustache.

When we first met up with these bad mama jamas at Panorama Bar back in September ’09 they were all high kicks and booty shake. We knew something special was brewing so we asked for a mix and low and behold they turned out a podcast finely coated with cheese and sexy. They even gave the mix a Beantown themed twist using a “Boston” a cappella to get things started; major brownie points ladies 😉

So bring your party-pants & get your lip fur ready as The Adventures Soul Clap Podcast proudly takes you on a Moustache Mama ride!

Episode 71: Funkalicious Gunna Funk You Up

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

One of the privileges of programing a podcast is the ability to uncover new DJ talent. Such is the case with 23 year old Parisian, Funkalicious James. An elementary school classmate with Le Loup, these two make up the production duo Childhood ’87, featured on Aux-Rec (on the flip side of our Baker Man release) with an edit of Inner Life’s “I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)”. PS, vinyl copies are still available here.

Growing up Funkalicious James was deeply influenced by his mothers jazz and R&B records as well as his cousins favorite hip-hop acts like Gang Starr and Arrested Development. Around 2004 he got into deep house going to party at places like Cheers @ The Djoon. There he made the discovery that the music of his childhood was heavily sampled and the core of this new dance music. He was hooked and set his sights on becoming a DJ.

Funkalicious’ DJ sets are self described as “a milkshake” of his childhood influences thru the filter of deep house. We dug his mix, can you?
