Classic Series 1: The Torch Bearers

Today is the beginning of something new (or maybe old I think)! Its called Classic Series and it means that each month or so we will be featuring a classic Soul Clap mix on The Adventures… Not, because we like future music any less, but because we love these old mixes and put tons of work into them. We also think it’s important for you to hear our roots so you know how we got where we at.

For the Classic Series 1 we dig out “The Torch Bearers” a mix we recorded in summer 2004. This mix was done right before our US tour and shows our soul, hip-hop, latin and african influences, plus alot of vocals. Enjoy…

Moan THE VIDEO

Trentemoller – Moan (Vocal Remix ft. Ane Trolle). You know I hate youtube videos on the blog, but this is kind of a Masssssive tuuuuuune!

P.S. Someone tell Cnyce to stop flirting on myspace and get his post on. It’s been like 2 weeks son.

ROOTS&FUTURE3 – Stereotyp

I don’t know why this dude has not blown up yet. He’s from Austria and makes beats that are part Solid Groove part Henrik Schwartz part RZA. Really original shit that covers all styles from techno to dancehall to hip-hop to broken beat to baile funk. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t dropped enough material yet? Because quality is not the issue here and each release is on a heavyweight lablel (G-Stone, K7, Man Recs). Hopefully his new album “Keepin’ Me” (which you can buy on CD here and digital here) will help push dude’s name to the forefront where his sounds already live. Wake up people.

The tracks below are house, techno, broken-beat and baile funk. For Stereotyp’s dancehall and hip-hop sounds check his myspace and listen to the mix at the bottom.

Stereotyp ft. MC Coppa – Live Mix

Back from Deep Space

Monday and Tuesday we made our monthly trip to NYC for Deep Space and record shopping and returned with these jewels:

Hit Dancetracks after getting lost in alpabet city (as usual). Found serious Jeff Mills / Purpose Maker represses on the techno wall, also grabbed an amazing GAMM gospel workout by 7 Samurai (will do a Roots & Future piece on him soon), plus crazy Rancho Relaxo Allstars on Abe Duque Records, some shit thats sounds like Theo Parrish and newness on Kompakt Extra. Then we got wasted at some expensive wine tasting for free (thanks Adam).

Deep Space was mostly the tits. REKID / Radioslave / Quiet Village (I linked there because that website is fresh) was Francois K’s guest and played like 5 tracks after we got there at midnight (including the crazy Prins Thomas mix of Toot D’amore), before the king of dub took over for the rest of the nite. It was kind of weak that we only got see dude for so short, but Kevorkian never disappoints with his reverb machine (does anyone know how he does this) and the Funktion1 sound system at Cielo is so perfect. Thankfully Kevorkian played alot of techno and then dropped some crazy wash of sirens into a short set of dubstep, which sounds retarded on that system, next was some classic soul into Swizz Beatz’ “It’s Me Bitches”, which has the most retarded of all hip-hop beats right now. It started to slow down at like 3 and we went to Le Souk which is better for euro shit on a Monday then Boston is on a Saturday plus it’s DJ Dove and Disciple’s night so it’s good soulful tribal house.

Tuesday hit TTLab and scooped that Prins Thomas remix, 2 dubstep tracks (one with a Busta sample and some Shackleton, which is twisted african dub drums – dude is slaying right now) and a Raw Fusion track. They had sold out of the new Moodyman dammit (anyone have that for me digital?)! Only had like 20 minutes at A1 (the best record store left on the east coast?), but got Ma Foom Bey Tony Humphries edits from ’86 and more Jeff Mills. Caught the bus, got back to boring old Bean. Best part of the story? I forgot my ID in Boston and still got in everywhere and got wasted, it’s so much more chill in NYC.

Sorry to bore you to death. Here are the goods (you probably should be paying me for doing all the work and buying $13 import records for you, or at least all the fake DJs need to start buying vinyl and learn how to mix):

Techno Week – Part 4: Paperclip People

First off, sorry the links from part 3 weren’t working before. They work now. Second and more importantly, today we feature 3 of my all time personal favorite tracks, not just by Carl Craig, but really by anyone. These are all under his Paperclip People alias and were all released between ’94 and ’96, but the sounds and structure are so innovative that they easily could have come out yesterday. Please enjoy these responsibly and come to see Carl at Rise tomorrow night. Thanks.

Tonight I return to my old T.U. stomping grounds and apparently my French dude Paulo (he’s on the controls for the next episode of the podcast) is killing Sagra, a new restaurant turned dance party on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Lots of new house music will be played and some S. Clap originals and some old favorites. We now return to your regularly scheduled techno week programming…

Innerzone Orchestra – Bug In The Bassbin DOWNLOAD
Innerzone is Carl Craig alongside Detroit musicians Craig Taborn, Francisco Mora Catlett and an entire orchestra. Released in 1996, this is probably Craig’s most well known track thanks to a slew of remixes on “James Lavelle‘s legendary trip hop label”, Mo’ Wax.
